A rotary valve is a small component with a large influence on a system: clearances that are too open leak air, geometry that is slightly off does not fit, and a rotor that is out of balance destroys its own bearings. This page describes how we control those three things.
Engineering & manufacturing
A rotary valve is a small component with a large influence on a system: clearances that are too open leak air, geometry that is slightly off does not fit, and a rotor that is out of balance destroys its own bearings. This page describes how we control those three things.
CNC Machining
Housing bores, flange faces and rotor bodies are machined on CNC turning and milling centres. Bores are machined after welding so that distortion is cut out rather than shimmed around, and flange faces are cut square to the bore axis in the same set-up wherever the geometry allows.
Rotor Manufacturing
Vane profiles and pocket volumes are produced to the approved drawing, then checked for tip clearance against the housing they will actually run in — not against a nominal figure. Rotors are balanced before assembly on units that run above moderate speed.
Assembly
Shaft, bearings, seals and drive are assembled and aligned in-house. Every unit is turned by hand before power-up to confirm there is no interference, then run under power to check rotation direction, noise and bearing temperature.
Quality Inspection
Critical dimensions, shaft runout, tip clearance and flange squareness are measured and recorded per unit. A dimensional record travels with the shipment, so the OEM's incoming inspection has something to check against.
Materials & Components
Material grades are purchased against the order specification, with mill certificates available on request. Bearings, seals and drive units are sourced from named suppliers so that a repeat order does not quietly change component quality.
Testing
Units are run-in and checked for rotation, noise and seal tightness at the bench. Where the duty requires it, a leakage check is carried out at the specified differential pressure and the result recorded on the inspection sheet.
Packaging & Delivery
Flange faces are protected, rotors are immobilised, and units are packed for sea freight with desiccant where the destination demands it. Marking and packing lists follow the customer's incoming goods requirements.
Drawing & Revision Control
Every production run references a frozen drawing revision. Changes are recorded, agreed in writing and applied from a stated date, so a repeat order cannot silently pick up a modification that the customer has not approved.
A note on the photographs on this site
We publish technical illustrations rather than stock photography. Photographs of our own workshop, machines and finished valves are being prepared and will replace these panels; we will not use images of other companies' factories to represent our own.
Want to see whether we can hold your tolerance?
Send the drawing with the critical dimensions marked. We will tell you which ones we can hold, which need a process change, and what the inspection record will contain.
