Drop-through Rotary Valve

Straight-through geometry for high-capacity discharge of granules with minimal shear.

Product Overview

In a drop-through valve the inlet and outlet are in line, so material falls vertically through the rotor pocket without being carried around the housing. The result is low shear on fragile granules, a large open area for high volumetric throughput, and less tendency for sticky materials to build up in the pocket. It is widely used on plastic pellets, grain, fertiliser and coarse mineral products.

Product Structure

Housing

In-line inlet and outlet with a large throat area, machined bore and bolted access covers at both ends.

Rotor

6 or 8 vane rotor with deep pockets; polished pockets for pellets and friable products.

Shaft & bearings

Heavy through shaft with outboard bearings; bearing housings clear of the material stream.

Sealing

Packing or lip seal as standard, with air-purge option for fine dust ingress control.

Drive

Geared motor with chain or direct coupling; variable speed where the discharge rate must track a process signal.

Design Features

  • In-line flow path reduces product degradation and attrition
  • Large pocket volume for high capacity at low rotor speed
  • Rounded, polished internals to prevent pellet hang-up
  • Suitable for gravity discharge from silos, bins and hoppers
  • Wear liners available for coarse, abrasive granules

Material Options

  • 304 stainless steel — plastic pellets, food and feed products
  • Carbon steel with wear liner — coarse minerals and aggregates
  • 316L stainless steel — chemical granules and corrosive products
  • Polished contact surfaces — friable or sticky products

Customisation

Every valve in this range can be built to your drawing: face-to-face length, flange pattern, rotor profile, material grade and drive arrangement. Send your drawing and we will quote against it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drop-through or offset (standard) valve — which one?

Choose drop-through where capacity and product integrity matter and the material is free-flowing. Choose an offset valve where a tight air seal is more important than throughput, for example fine powder under vacuum.

Will it handle sticky pellets?

Deep pockets with polished surfaces reduce hang-up, but heavily hygroscopic or tacky products are better handled with a larger pocket and a slower rotor speed. We size the pocket around your bulk density and required rate.

Can the valve be installed at an angle?

The valve is designed for vertical mounting. Where site conditions require an incline, tell us at enquiry stage — the inlet transition and rotor geometry must be reviewed.
